Report: Xiaomi unblocks all smartphones muted in some areas
BEIJING, Sep 14 (PRIME) -- Chinese company Xiaomi has unblocked all the smartphones whose operation was limited earlier in some countries and regions, including Russia’s Crimea, Chinese edition Global Times reported on Tuesday, quoting the company’s representative.
Xiaomi said the blocking did not target any specific country or region, but was done on the markets where the company is officially absent to prevent smuggling.
The blocking was temporary for the period of investigation of possible illegal imports. All the smartphones are unblocked.
Earlier, forum XDA-developers reported that Xiaomi had restricted the use of its smartphones in some parts of the globe, including Cuba, Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, and Crimea since September. Several days after the purchase of a device, users were said to see a notice on the screen that the company’s policy did not allow the sale of this product on this territory and that its unlicensed imports were banned.
